 Some interesting statisitcs emerged from the recent Cancer Survivorship and Sexual Health conference I attended in Washington DC. For example the number of cancer survivors will double by 2060, 1 in 3 adults have cancer , 65% of survivors are over the age of 60 years and treatment impacts sex organs in 64 % of all cancer survivors.

It is 9pm , I feel the sun strongly on my back as I blog. I'm in Glasgow, having submerged myself for the last 5 days in the World Association of Sexual Health (WAS) congress. I say submerged as I was engulfed in the world of sexual science , education and rights- and you know how engulfing talking and thinking about sexuality can be:)

Five years ago to the day- 9th May - Pres Jacob Zuma was found not guilty of rape. I received a few letters from activist organisations "faking" an apology for the President and resigning from his job, in an admission of shame. So today when a notice arrived announcing yet another corrective rape, for a moment I hoped it was another gimmick, a sick gimmicky way of drawing our attention to a crime of hate. But it was not a hoax.

I love being taken by surprise, to be shifted out of a comfort zone, of being reminded not to be judgmental. Tonight on the Dr. Eve Show I asked listeners to talk about what it is to be a mother. And my surprise was when man after man called in with fascinating and diverse opionions about the mothers of their children. Of course stereotypically I expected strong voices of women but the tender, hurt, admiring, very acknowledging voices of men flooded the phone lines.

My attention was drawn to an article in the Mail and Guardian, April 29- May 5 2011. The article titled "porn addication crosses genders" comments on how porn viewing in women is increasing, women are "habitually" watching porn, similar patterns emerging as their male counterparts. This was not particularly new news for me as clinically I am aware of this trend. I review the so called 'educaitonal porn" I am legally allowed to sell online. However I confess to not being a purveyor of visual porn..I prefer erotic art, stories, images. I decided to go exploring.
