In a few hours I board a plane for Miami, Florida. Many , many hours in the sky, will allow me to be disorientated in terms of time and space. I like this. It is the time I am most creative, reflective and of course, alone. I have a bag packed with bikinis, sun tan oil and wonder if I can trust the weather reports  - this is in such stark contrast to the snow and freezing conditions in the  rest of America and of course Europe.

I long for this alone time.  Until I get to the other side of the world where my man awaits me.   Daily as a clinician, parent, partner, friend my time is absorbed in a joyous way with others. By the time the year ends it is obligatory to take a break from the intensity of the work , every therapist knows this. And of course I choose to be a  therapist as I enjoy dwelling, delving and thinking about life,relationships, the world- so   the rest of my world is pretty intense too. From opera that is so dramatic to the books I choose to read I am constantly processing life- even when I am having fun.

My holiday reads include "Socrates on Love" , the new Antjie Krog novel and the novel by this year's Nobel prize winner for literature, Herta Muller,  with Richard Dawkins new book as a back up. Just need a break from sexual medicine journals so my thinking can be expansive and thus be more creative back in my therapy rooms.
