I  am in preparation for one of my favourite conferences _ Aesthetic Medical Conference of South Africa(AMCSA) Walking into the conference area I am transported into a world of gorgeousness. Everyone is gorgeous, this is after all their business. I become seduced by the possibility of being gorgeous. I have to shake myself out of this plastic reverie and face my own ageing face with acceptance - or do I ?

I have had an ambivalent relationship with cosmetic surgery. As a woman I long for unwrinkled skin, breasts that remain upstanding without the assistance of a corset bra, and a tummy that needs no tucking. 

As a feminist and an ardent objector of female objectification, I feel I betray my sistahs when I  have dabbled , loving the result, holding my head up that much higher and enjoy as people say :"You look so relaxed". But what about my  feminist ethics, my commitment to women embracing their ageing with grace?

There is no grace to ageing. I am a slave to my own words written on how to age well  (http://www.dreve.co.za/shop/books/ageing-and-sexuality.html). I gym , dance, refuse a drink - always-, never eat meat nor have a caffeine experience- ever. I observe health rules as if it were my religion , and of course this includes hormone therapy and vaginal replenishment. Are you exhausted yet?

I think a little nip and tuck has to be included in this regime. I am never going to feel gorgeous with all the ageing religiosity to which I am enslaved. And research indicates that feeling gorgeous is a safeguard against depression and depression contributes somewhat to heart failure in ageing woman.

Weigh it up for yourself.. Im going to spend the weekend at AMCSA and embrace all the knowledge they offer , from healthy life styles to the safest and healthiest way to cosmetic gorgeousness.
