About 10 days ago a client of mine called me up and said she met a new guy. On the first date he was clear on his interest in her and they ahd soem kissing and cuddling in the car.  She made it clear she wanted no other action that night as wanted to get to know him.  he was somewaht put out..She  called me as wanted to know what to do now- wait for him to call or send an "interested" text. I told her wait it out and on the next date to ask the most important question..

On the next date he invoted her to his place after dinner for drinks. She asked him if he knew his HIV status. Horrified , he said he never uses a condom and no need for HIV test as he is healthy. Firmly, in her power, she said if you do not get tested, no sex. He was angry, surprised, insulted. She has not heard from him again. I applaud this beautiful woman for her courage.

She is one of the more fortunate women in this country who does not stand to risk much by insisting on a test and condom use. At worst he never calls again. At best she gets a reputation around town about being a self resepcting kick ass woman who won't be messed around- on any level.

However the majority of women in our country cannot risk making this request as it may be the death of them- and their kids . They are kicked into the streets and /or forced into penetration and these women stand the highest chance of infection in the country.

Have a week in which you kick ass for all that peeves you in your relationship/sexuality. Stand up for yourself- once you work out the risks involved. I am preparing you for the 16 days of activism of no violence against women , beginning 25 November.
