I just got in from a wonderful evening- Irit Noble's show "Diva Licious"  at On Broadway until Saturday night. I was feeling light, grateful for the experience of being entertained by such talented performers and of course, all warm and fuzzy seeing my friend Irit in her prime up on stage. I belong to a list serv  -  16 days - where discussion on women's rights happens all year round, not just during the 16 days of activism against women's rights. And I was faced with what you are faced with as you look at my blog.

I wonder why I feel so ill, so immediately punched in my stomach. Rape happens in this country something like every minute , so why am I reacting in this manner? is this not just another rape? And this is maybe my source of discomfort.. this will become another story of rape told with all the sensation the media will bring to this particular story - it has all the realness of Jodi Foster.

I don't want it to be a  passing dinner table conversation - I want you to feel mad, sad and do something about it. Talk about it at your breakfast table in the morning, to your colleagues, to your children, oh please to your children. Tonight one young woman's life is forever changed. As is her family's , her community's. As are the lives of all the men who participated in this horror; their families and passersby.  I ache. I suddenly feel  the presence of so many women - and men- whose stories of rape have been shared with me over the years. I ache.

I urge you to talk. There has to be an honouring of this woman, name still unknown, so she will not become another hideous statistic of rape. Feel the pain tonight - especially be tender in your love making tonight ..
