I am trying to protect my rights in the face of this autocratic body. I felt the pride witnessing and being part of this golden time for South Africa. Our country so deserves to be seen as the civilized beautiful generous country /people that we are. But I could do without feeling child like in the face of Big Daddy. And feeling as if we , like every country that holds a Fifa event, have been ripped off economically.
Last night I stood in awe looking up at the Cape Town stadium as we entered its well controlled gates. I thought: what happens here after 8 games of soccer?? It seems completely absurd that any event justifies this much of an investment.. perhaps I do not have the vision to imagine what other events will be host to 68,000 people. It is an extraordinary structure, truely extraordinary. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I loved the laid back comradary of people. I am in awe of the dance of soccer. I angered at the Fifa control of food and beverages. Completely absurd autocratic denial of my right to choose what I want to eat and drink. Since I drink neither Budweiser nor Coke, do not eat chocolates, crisps nor boerewors rolls that left me thirsty and hungry since there is a moratorium on bringing in one's own food and drink.
And of course, not one condom on sale, nor given out at the entrance, not one safer sex message flashing on the sponsored boards in the stadium. Oh dear, we failed abysmally. What a lost opportunity for South Africa to stamp its own sexuality rights to the world. I guess that is not the priority of Seth Blatter. And if the Government could not push for some traditional food to be available at stadia I guess they could not push for safer sex messages- did they even try one wonders.
I had some soccer fans come in and buy sex toys- that was kind of fun- never before explained sex toys to non English speaking people.
