Infidelity in High Places

I thought that matters of infidelity had settled in America once Tiger fled into the Woods. Not to be. Seems people in high positions in power just have this urge to merge with the other , the other being other than their own familiar intimate, even married partner.

John Edwards, a well loved handsome rich senator who ran for the White House alongside Hilary and Barak , was caught with his pants down. His secret affair and child nogal , have got Americans breathless with disappointment. And then of course there is Brad and Angelina.. tabloids full of conjecture : is he back with Jennifer? Is she having an affair?

I am caught up with the drama of America. I just found out Virgin Mega music store closed in Times Square. The only sign I have so far that a year ago America was in a major recession. I see stores packed with people, shopping; people talking about shopping. The most amazing sight so far- superior even to the snow on the sidewalks - was the Apple Store on 5th Avenue. It is a remarkable glass cube that sits on 5th Avenue. I walked in to get my computer sorted out and I was affronted with a mass of people- young people, Apple groupies, just hanging around this magnificent space, talking Apple, engaging with the Apple products and chatting to the staff. I had to go online in the store to book an appointment for my computer to see a technician. I found myself reluctant to leave this store, feeling mesmerised by the atmosphere- gentle yet charged with Apple excitement. Steve Jobs is one smart man.

I had a dream come true - I got to spend time at Pfizer World headquarters here in New York. I was privileged to meet with Pfizer executives so watch this space and of course all my other spaces, as I share new cutting edge research with you. And tomorrow is another huge dream come true for me - I get to go to a United Nations meeting.. but more about that tomorrow..

Most surprising experience for me is the response of people I meet with in a business environment: they have done their homework and spent time on my site. To a man/woman I am told how astounded they are that I have "dildos and vibrators"there as it takes away from the seriousness of my work. America is conservative. Maybe that's why people go underground and cheat on their loved ones. I feel a proud South African. We really have freedom of speech - plus a president who does it in the open - 5 wives , a finacee, plus an other child , now disclosed, with a Mistress. And like good citizens we follow our leader and thus continue to have the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS.

Jet lag continues to plague me - actually I plague myself by not allowing myself to sleep as don't want to miss a bite of the big Apple. Good night.
