You do not want to be coming to Tampa Florida USA for a holiday. For anything. After spending 4 straight days and evenings in the ISSWSH (International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health) annual meeting I got to get out the hotel doors today. As the conference came to an end I rushed out to meet the warm air and see the town. Nothing. Just nothing to see. Lots of gorgeous Florida water. I look forward to being back in New York tomorrow..

ISSWSH is the leading international, multidisciplinary organisation for women's sexual health. It is all about Sexual Medicine. People came from 21 different countries and spent the last 4 days eating, talking and learning together. My days began at 6am as board meetings happen at 7am and its straight into presentations until after 7.30pm. Then its socializing, discussing, gossiping, case consulting, hanging out and adding new friends to an established group of very special friends and colleagues.

Most of the talk was about Flibanserin. This is the new drug to treat pre -menopausal women who are diagnosed with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. That means women who just have no sexual desire. It is to be launched in USA in August 2010 and hopefully in South Africa in about 3 years - I know, it really is a long time to wait for what looks like a very safe and  effective drug. But I will be working with the manufacturers Boehringer and Ingelheim and will keep you updated on the latest information, controversies and outcomes of our own clinical trials.

There was also great discussions on hormones, specifically estrogen, progesterone and of course testosterone. And I went to special courses on "cancer and sexuality" a special interest for me. I look forward to sharing with you this new information. There still remains a lot of controversy about hormone replacement so you need to get the facts. I also went to a special course on "genital pain disorders"- it is so common in women and I need to know as much about this as possible as clinically I work with many women who have unconsummated marriages and painful sex. One paper , yes 1 paper , presented by my very special friend and colleague David Goldmeier , a physician, sexual medicine specialist, from London, on HIV/AIDS/STI's. I just saw the Americans walk out as the paper was presented. HIV is a chronic disease here so sexual medicine providers have no interest in it - tragic!

And I was beyond excited to attend the session on "Neutriceuticals and enhancers examining the evidence". This was a paper on  scientific evidence about the facts and myths of lubricants, moisturizers, and yes, vibrators. And the evidence proves the effectiveness and even necessity of some of these products .

As mentioned previously  I have been on a sex toy/enhancers  sourcing, researching and shopping frenzy in New York. This week I will be securing rights and shipping out exclusive toys, DVD's and enhancers for your pleasure -and sexual health. I am beyond excited to bring this to you
