November 20th is Trans Day of Rememberance, a time to hold memories of all trasngender people lost. It is a global attempt to advance transgender human rights.
I am in preparation for the Genderdynamix transhealth conference, 26-28 November, Cape Town. Together with Robert Hamblin, advocacy director of Genderdynamix, I will be presenting research done at SWEAT.
I ran a 7 week group process with transgender women sex workers (TSW) talking about their own sexuality, relationships and femininity. This has been groundbreaking work. Next to no research has been done on this topic. Imagine for a moment being born a man, knowing early on that you are a woman. You have no resources, support nor real understanding why you are so unhappy and uncomfortable in your body. And then needing to make money off this very body which in essence you deny, as no one else will emply you. Besides you have minimal education.

As this activist work happens, in my real life I remain glued to my therapy chair as I am intellectually challenged by couples relationships and sexuality. This is a tough time of year- we are indeed in persuit of the perfect love:)
