I am preparing for my time away: 1 month in New York, with some time in the month to attend a conference in Florida and then back to New York. This last week I was made aware of how important it is for therapists to take time out. I find myself once more in awe of the work, energised whereas when one is burnt out from too many hours of therapy and not enough time out , the work can be exhausting. I am in awe of us as humans, the most fascinating stories we live, many so heart breaking I am not sure how the human heart is able to carry so much pain. And of course I am held spell bound by the variety of sexuality we all practice , or wish to practice.
This year my commitment to reading out of my field grows and develops. I am reading widely so as to develop different paradigms within which to critically think and thus problem solve. I need all the help I can get in order to better understand human relating and sexuality. Presently I am reading "Canon: the beautiful basics of science" by Natalie Angier. She writes with brilliance, her language glitters on the pages and mostly makes the information accessible to lay people. I read her previous book "Woman - an intimate geography" and was equally delighted. And of course I will be immersing myself in classical music and opera , both by being physically present with the music as well as in books I have bought to better educate myself in this passion - very exciting.
