Free in NYC!
I had entered a competition which relied on my writing skills, and had won the first prize which was a 2 week trip to New York, all expenses paid, plus R1000 each spending money! The competition was created to coincide with the Civic Theatre's production of "Mame" - the wonderful story of a high flyer party animal called Mame who suddenly finds herself in the startling role of mother, when her sister dies and her nephew is given to his "Auntie Mame" to be raised! The competition asked that the sender tells a story of who he or she feels is an "Auntie Mame" and since Ilana had been suddenly made a mother one night, by virtue of an adoption coming through suddenly - she was my ideal choice. I wrote about her. I told how - after many years of being childless and having put her name on adoption lists - the much wanted baby girl arrived, and she got the news late at night, at a crazy party she was giving for her friends! Suddenly she had to swop roles.. and it had been one hell of a life changing epic!
Long story made short - we won! My husband was happy to babysit our three children and off I went on a trip of a lifetime!
