This week I began teaching in O&G Department at UCT Medical School, one of my favourite places to teach. My intention is to introduce the students to the concept of Sexual Medicine and to enable them to integrate it into their work. It is a deep challenge. Imagine being 21 years old, third year Medical student, perhaps pretty naive about sexuality in general and you are now told Sexual Medicine is part of your curriculum. At 21 years old young men are trying to perfect delaying their ejaculation and young women are coming to terms with the itch they just have to scratch between their legs.. Turn that into an academic exercise
Deeply rewarding work for me.
May is to be a busy creative in-your-face month for me. I will be in many people's faces as most evenings I will be presenting academic papers or talking to lay people around the city. I am also about to stretch my voice further into the country - watch this space for details on where else you can hear me on radio - wonderfully exciting.
May is International Masturbation month and Mothers Day so we are going to be having an event that will set you up for celebrating these events and kick you into WC2010 with a smile to match the dial of your vibrators. Watch out for special offers and new toys brought in just for May month of Masturbation.
Listen in to Redi and I live on Radio 702/Cape Talk at 11am tomorrow - we are discussing Pregnancy and sexuality.
I needed a Vagina Cupcake today as I am somewhat overwhelmed with preparation for all my presentations. To give you an idea on how diverse my work is, on my desk right now is a book "The Evolution of God" by Robert Wright in preparation for a paper I am presenting on infidelity in religion; a pile of journal articles on "Autogynephilia" as I have a client with this "disorder" ; many books on Cancer and Sexuality; a completed presentation on Men's Sexual Dysfunctions ; half complete presentation on Womens Sexual Dysfunctions and a statement I am working on as my first task for WAS , on the Ugandan anti homosexual proposed Bill. Plus sex toys that need "evaluating".. and of course my mind thinks back to the challenging clinical cases of the day and know this needs to be my next book. In the space of a few hours on any given day I get to assess F-M or M-F transsexual people, listen to sexual and relationship histories that never cease to surprise me and then intervene with couples who are in despair , heart shattering despair.
I wish you a vulva munching Friday
