I am rather flippant about Party's now whilst in my heart is anger, a searing anger. I am preparing a presentation on Gender Based Violence and HIV. So am over exposed to research from around the world. I have women's voices , stories in my head. I have my own stories in my heart. From Palestine to Pakistan, from Cameroon to Gambia women's rights are slaughtered. The statistics are horrific. But it is the human stories that cause most distress. I cannot for the life of me understand what drives a man to a place of abuse of a woman- it starts with name calling, bullying, threats, and escalates to rape and other forms of hideous violence. let me qualify this - I understand it clincially, intellectually. But what happens to a man at that moment when he turns into a beast... I have the academic nswer - but it brigns me no comfort..

I am doing my radio show at 8pm tonight on the gang rape of the 15 year old Johannesburg woman , on her school grounds. They spiked her drink, dragged her into an area of the school and took turns raping her - whilst school kids watched. And simultaneously filmed it on their mobile phones and sent it around. Thsi is all "alleged' - even "alleged" that the teachers laughed when viewing the footage. Today's news say the NPA has dropped charges as not enough evidence!!!

I have my own car, know my rights, can get away.. limping, horrified how easily a lover can turn on a "beloved" in a moment of anger. What about the women trapped all over the world...
