As women begin peri menopause they experience a change in their sexuality inclusive of the many other changes that occur.
The physical changes are due to drop in estrogen, progesterone and testosterone primarily. These 3 hormones are necessary for maintaining plump, juicy vaginas as well as sexual interest and general sexual health. Thus the reduction will result in vaginas that are dry, have less elasticity and thus more difficult and even painful to penetrate. This, in addition, to her lowered desire will be one reason for her loosing interest in sex as she enters menopause.
A way to begin is a consult with gynaecologist - not with your iridologist or bio kineticist. the gynaecologist will begin countering this change with low doses of hormone replacement therapy as soon as possible, as long as there are no counter indications for this. In this way a woman’s vagina returns to its plump juicy self and her clitoris retains its shape and form. Plus she gains confidence that she will physiologically have a pleasurable time. In addition the HT will give her back desire, in addition to sleep, good moods, less joint ache and of coruse do away with other menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.
However , and most importantly , research shows that a woman’s relationship at the time of going through menopause , is more influential on her sexuality, than her loss of hormones. How interesting is that! If she is in a long term relationship that is unhappy, if he has a sexual dysfunction, such as erectile dysfunction and not being treated ; if she is alone and depressed or on anti depressants , this will cause her to loose desire more than the loss of hormones. So to enjoy sex going through menopause be sexual as often as possible – use it or loose it theory- replace hormones and pay attention to your relationship.
If alone I recommend a vibrating dildo as this keeps the muscles contracting and hence tight ( http://www.dreve.co.za/shop/vibrators/vaginal/boss-lady.html) as well as a good clitoral stimulator (http://www.dreve.co.za/shop/vibrators/clitoral/jimmy-jane-form-2-pink.html)
Let me know what is most irritating for you about peri menopause ..
DRY VAGINA:
As mentioned above this is caused by loss of estrogen. This is quite easily and safely treated by local hormone replacement, safe even for the woman who cannot be on HT. Using a good silicone lubricant will be useful but not completely efficacious. It is essential that women know this is a natural outcome of menopause and treat it- it will prevent women being sexual as they anticipate painful penetration.
