I am 55 year old woman and so far have kept menopause relatively in check. I suffer from slight hot flushes when I'm anxious. I have no partner at the moment. I was wondering why you suggest masturbation and frequent penetration.(July Longevity) Besides feeling good does it have other beneficial effects perhaps to stave off menapause ? Is there a medical reason.? I am interested in your vibrators but they are far too expensive for me. Another thing that concerns me is that my gynae did prescribe a local vaginal replacement in addition to Femolene (herbal HRT). However I am not in a relationship anymore and see that you advocate taking it anyway. Please fill me in why ? I would really like to know. Thank you DR. EVE ANSWERS:
Great questions - thank you. Firstly nothing staves off menopause - menopause happens to every woman who lives long enough to have her last period. Perhaps you mean stave off symptoms. Well every woman's experience of symptoms is quite different - and hormone replacement s there to stop symptoms which appear as a result of hormonal losses. Masturbation is important as it keeps your pelvic floor and PC muscles in good shape, tight , with each orgasmic contraction. This also encourages lubrication from a dry vagina. The release of feel good, relaxing hormones is so important to your feeling of well being. Penetration keeps the vaginal walls flexible, open as if there is no hormone replacement being used there will be a very dried out vagina over time. Once you begin penetration again you will be in pain, even bleed, if no hormones and no exercising has happened. In addition you may find extreme pleasure now with vaginal penetration than you did when you were younger. As to continuing to use local vaginal replacement- essential: the endothelium , the inner lining, of your vagina , is estrogen dependent. So whne there is no estrogen, nor replacement, this lining wears thin, making you susceptible to urinary infections and definitely painful intercourse. Using this replacement as indicated by your doctor allows a slow build up of this lining so protecting your cervix and vagina and urethra. We do not need a partner to keep sexually healthy- you do it for yourself. And if a partner comes along then you will be ripe and juicy to receive him/her :) |
