I am an opera lover, as many of you may know. Opera is considered an art form which only older people enjoy. It is always a joy to see younger people at the Opera in Cape Town. In New York bus loads of young students are brought into the Met as an initiative to make this old art form more accessible and trendy for younger people. I know the high notes can be irritating on new ears - but these ears can get used to the sounds if there is a curiousity.
The reason I raise this topic is presently there is a magical movie showing at Cinema Nouveaus all over the country, called "The Audition". It films the auditions of new young opera singers who get selected for possible places at the Met (Metropolitan Opera House, New York) and other world class opera houses. Even if you don't love opera go see it as an interesting documentary. But if you love opera your heart will open with each aria sung by one talented young person after the other. The Met want to attract young people back into opera theaters so take a grandchild, or younger couple with you for a wonderful few hours of entertainment.
What do you do on Sunday nights? Are they lonely? How do you feel if you are retired with no work to go to on Monday morning? Have you created structures to wake to? Like exercise, meeting a friend for coffee, making love to the person in your bed?
Share your worlds with us. In this way we get a true idea of what older people's worlds are like rather than continuing to believe the constructions that society give us of older people. My fantasy is to go to a movie in the middle of the day.. it would feel like the ultimate bunking...anyone do that??
Please watch this site as we are introducing wonderful features for you. For example in Tips and Techniques there will be one article placed there every Monday morning. Of course the toys await you in the shop - be sure to read their descriptions as I offer recommendations which are good guidelines when deciding on what to buy.
