Daily I am reminded of ageism, ranging from kind of low key, to subtle and to not so subtle. I still have medical students- young , fresh wonderfully naive age- who will laugh when I discuss the importance of them raising sexual health with their ageing patients. Just this morning I was aware of some sniggering as we discussed a case of an ageing woman- they cannot conceptualize this necessity. I blame them not - even we who are ageing could never imagine looking and feeling as we do now we are older.
And daily I am gifted with new knowledge by ageing people themselves. Just the other day I came out my therapy room into the waiting room to invite my next new client in for her session. I was faced with two ageing women, both unfamiliar to me- confused I checked in with Moreeda to see if she had overbooked (even compulsivley efficient Moreeda is human
) No- one woman had come in to buy sex toys and the other for her therapy session. My heart danced with joy - ageing people rule!
