I seem to have lost my clitoris.

I have been with my husband for 22 years, 15 of those married and 20 of those sexually intimate. Our sex life has always been more than satisfactory, even after all these years.I orgasm probably 99% of our encounters. These have been mostly through clitoral stimulation. Lately though I seem to have lost my clitoris?

Where I once had quite a big "button", there now seems to be nothing. This was usually the first place I felt a stirring when getting aroused. Now I have to conscuoisly think about it before I feel anythng. I can still see something there, but the feeling when I tocuh myself there is just of nothing. Have you ever heard of this?

Even though I have never needed help with lubrication, I also now feel almost too wet?! Is there something that I can do about the missing clitoris or (and I hope you'll tell me this) will and can it come back?

I'm 38 years old and have had one child (9 years ago).

You have not lost your clitoris! Promise! Cannot happen. The clitoris is an extensive system within the genitals . The part you refer to as “the button” is your glans, which is literally the tip of the iceberg, the only part of the clitoris which is visible to the human eye. The rest is hidden.

You describe a disturbing change in sensation and size. This commonly happens with hormonal changes. At 38 you are young to be going through menopause- but one cannot rule it out as a sign of early menopause. Also medications, illness, infection can diminish clitoral sensations.

I urge you to consult with your gynae – please request a full medical assessment, including thyroid check. And if you are not on contraception, you need a sex hormone check up. You also need your gynae to do a thorough examination of your genitals to rule out any pathology.

Once you know medically and hormonally that you are healthy , it becomes time to attend to your relationship/life/life style. Consult with a counselor/therapist so relationship matters can be sorted out.
