I realise that this might be a stupid question but what is the difference between a dildo and a vibrator? Under normal circumstances I would google but it is a bit dangerous to do this type of google search at work. I don't own any toys and would like to spoil myself. What would you suggest for me?

Dr. Eve Answers:

There are never any stupid questions when it comes to sexuality- being informed gives us confidence and thus we tend to behave more responsibly and takes less risks. So thank you for great question.

Dildo is an insertable toy that does not vibrate. It is a toy that can be inserted/penetrated into the vagina or/and anus. People choose this when they wish to take full control of their experience, not be distracted by the vibrations. My favourite dildo in the store right now is "Mr. Silky", a smooth rather large penis shaped dildo . Dildos are enjoyed by men and women of course.  Pop plugs are great to walk around with - it is a but plug that does not vibrate. It can be used together with another vibrating clitoral toy.

Vibrators are a variety of shapes and sizes of toys that , well ,vibrate. They vibrate at different speeds, most today can be used in water too, so user friendly. The purpose of a vibrator is to give you that sensation that is almost guarnateed to bring you to orgasm. Many women struggle to orgasm so using  a vibe reassures them that they are capable of orgasm. I do prefer women to learn to orgasm without a toy as the speed of a toy cannot be matched by a hand, fingers, mouth. However it is a woman's right to have this choice.

For a beginner such as yourself I suggest a gentle vibration such as Ophoria Finger Vibe. If you find it too gentle then move onto something more powerful such as RO80M vibe - a strong vibration shaped like a lipstick that fits between your vulva lips. And if you want to go smooth, cool, healthy , go Layaspot as it hugs the entire vuvla area so giving you a spreading of sensations throughout your vulva/clitoral region.

If you live in Gauteng come to the Women's Show - we will be there - stand F13- and you will learn from my Reps and thus be informed enough to make your own choice. don't forget to get soem lube too...
